(photo credit: James Mulvenon) The annual Fourth of July Firefall celebration has been cancelled for this year after budget cuts, says Jodie Adams, director of Parks and Recreation.
Firefall was an all day fair that ended with a choreographed firework display while the Springfield Orchestra played along. Adams says the program has been cancelled indefinitely, but doesn’t rule out the possibility of it returning.
The City of Springfield is instead planning various picnics over the holiday weekend, and a Fourth of July parade in Washington Park on North Summit Ave.
