| Poetry Slam To Highlight HIV/AIDS Risk to Women |

Listen in  MP3 format Today is National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. Tonight, the AIDS Project of the Ozarks will hold a Poetry Slam competition where women and older girls can come and learn about the importance of HIV testing in a non-threatening environment. Danica Wilson, event coordinator for the AIDS Project of the Ozarks, says the event will begin at 8 in the Plaster Student Union on the Missouri State University campus. "If you have a particular poem that you want to read--as part of the slam, or on it's own--if it encompasses the message of HIV and AIDS, or how important testing is, or why women need to take care of themselves so we can take care of the rest of our business--we welcome that," she said. The focus tonight, Wilson said, will be on encouraging women and girls to lessen the risk of contracting HIV, and to stress the importance of getting tested.
