Several citizens in Republic are likely polishing up their resumes after some positive economic news was announced Tuesday afternoon in the southwest Missouri town. KSMU’s Jennifer Moore was there for the event, and has this report.

Fortune 500 company McLane Inc. has decided to build a new warehouse and distribution facility in the southwest Missouri town. The project is expected to bring 400 new jobs to the area.

Governor Nixon took part in the formal announcement. He said the news comes amidst a time when unemployment in Missouri is at a 25-year-high.

The governor cited state tax incentives as one way to keep attracting businesses to Missouri. According to the governor’s office, McLane Incorporated is eligible for an estimated $4 million dollars in tax credits from the state over a period of five years, if the company creates the number of jobs they pledge and if it does so within the proposed time frame.

The mood in the packed community center where the announcement was made was clearly upbeat. Bryan Buckner, the mayor of Republic, stressed the significance of the business choosing his town.

The 400 full-time jobs will have an average starting wage of $32,000 annually, and will come with benefits.

McLane is a $30 Billion supply chain services company; it provides grocery and food supply chain solutions for thousands of convenient stores, chain restaurants, drug stores and military bases throughout the U.S.
