The Arizona Cardinals may seem like the underdogs in this year’s Superbowl, pitted against the Pittsburgh Steelers, a program rich in tradition which has been known for its national legacy in football history.
One fan, however, may feel differently about that prediction.
KSMU’s Ryan Farmer caught up with a local coach who has personal ties to the Cardinal’s quarterback who will start in Sunday’s big game.
 

Before he became head football coach at Missouri State University, Terry Allen coached at the University of Northern Iowa.
And it was there that he had a player by the name of Kurt Warner, now the quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals, who will be playing in Sunday’s Superbowl game.
Coach Allen joined me by phone to talk about his relationship with Warner.
 

Allen said he recruited Warner from high school to play for him at the University of Northern Iowa.
He says Warner’s faith and talent as a football player make him truly unique.
His favorite memory of Warner involves a time with his wife and Warner at a drive through.
He describes that Warner stopped Allen’s wife before driving away, to make sure to check whether they had all of the food they ordered because, “‘they have a tendency to get you at the drive through.’ I always chuckle when I think of Kurt doing that.”
Coach Allen said he was hoping for the best for Warner, and that he was pulling for the Cardinals in Sunday’s game.
 

The 43rd Superbowl will be played in Tampa Bay this year.
Kickoff is at 5:30 p.m.
