Listen in  MP3 format With a new contract in hand, the Springfield-Greene County Health Department’s WIC program is expanding its services in more sites and with more staff in order to reach a wider group of people. KSMU’s Alvin Chen reports. The Women, Infants and Children nutrition program, or WIC program, is a special nutrition program that helps pregnant women, new mothers and children up to age 5 improve their nutrition. Jaci McReynolds, spokesperson for the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, explains why there is a need for the program to branch out. McReynolds says there has been an increase in the number of people who are interested in the program over the last year. She also says some changes will be made after the program expands. The WIC program is currently serving about 6,000 clients per month in Springfield. For KSMU News, I'm Alvin Chen.
