Several of the area’s non-profit organizations are thousands of dollars better off today after the Community Foundation of the Ozarks awards its latest round of grants. KSMU’s Jennifer Moore reports.

A total of 135,000 dollars went out to 12 local agencies, focusing on programs that will help the children of Greene County in the areas of health and social services.

 

One of the recipients of the grant money is "Ambassadors for Children," a group that serves foster children in Greene County. Director Sondra Uzzell says the organization will use the 19,500 dollars it received to help foster kids buy new clothes through a program called Kids Clothes Closet.

 

Uzzell added that part of the money will also go toward an educational tutoring program for foster children in Greene County.

 

Randy Russell of the Community Foundation of the Ozarks says each of the twelve agencies receiving grant money this time around has urgent needs.

 

Russell said most of the money awarded went toward children who live in poverty, including money for shelter, medicine, counseling, and educational programs.
