Even from modest beginnings in 1974 at a "charming" house on National Street, KSMU 91.1 FM has been dedicated to quality. With that purpose in mind, KSMU strives to bring superior programming to over 40,000 weekly listeners in Southwest Missouri. Whether through NPR News, local news coverage, or classical music, KSMU seeks to inform, to entertain and "to encourage the exploration of ideas and their application to citizenship."
Our efforts haven't gone unnoticed. Our news coverage has been presented with such honors as the 2002 National Edward R. Murrow Award from the RTNDA for News Series, the 2001 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award from the RTNDA for Feature Reporting, the 1987 National Edward R. Murrow Award from the RTNDA for Investigative Reporting, The Missouri Broadcasters Association Excellence Award in Documentary Public Affairs in 2002 and 2000, Certificates of Merit for Feature Reporting, Public Affairs Reporting, and Complete News from the Missouri Broadcasters Association, three Public Radio News Directors Incorporated Awards, and the Missouri State Teachers Association Award for Excellence in Education Reporting. And we continue to flourish because of unwavering support from the public we serve. Inside

When moved to Strong Hall (formally the Public Affairs Classroom Building) on the Missouri State University campus in Springfield in 1998, KSMU developed a simple, yet paradoxically complex, vision "to be the best University licensed public radio station in the country." We aim to fulfill that vision by serving our listeners with national and community oriented programming each and every day.
