Steelman announced Monday that a working mother, a retired teacher, and a military veteran from the area have endorsed her candidacy for governor.

She said that her opponent, Kenny Hulshof, may secure the support of so-called "power brokers" in Jefferson City and Washington, D.C., but today's endorsements reflect her commitment to everyday Missourians.

Both Steelman and Hulfhof are Republicans competing in the gubernatorial primary election.

Steelman, who is currently Missouri's state treasurer, made the announcement at the Library Center Monday afternoon.

Missouri Republican leaders have come to the defense of Congressman Hulshof after Steelman criticized him in television ads, which began running last week.

Steelman's ad states that Hulfhof has been spending too much money in Washington.

But Senator Kit Bond and Representatives Tood Akin, Sam Graves, Roy Blunt and JoAnn Emerson issued a joint statement staying they are disappointed that Steelman would attack Missouri Representatives who are working with Republicans to stop what they called the extreme agendas of Democrats.

Senator Bond endorsed Hulshof for governor in May.
