Genetics is the study of heredity and variation in living organisms. Some people are genetically predisposed to have a certain disease.
Dr. Paul Durham is a professor of cell biology and director of the Center for Biomedical and Life Sciences at Missouri State. He discusses what people can do that will make it less likely for them to develop the disease for which they are predisposed. |

Greater Ozarks Leadership Development (GOLD) fosters civic leadership capacity in southwest Missouri by developing a network of communication, cooperation and community building know-how across the private, public and nonprofit sectors. |

The Missouri Public Affairs Academy brings together talented and aspiring students from throughout the state to develop their understanding of public affairs. This summer, 22 students from 18 high schools are learning about public affairs and creating plans to take what they learn back to their local communities. |

The Missouri Innovation Academy is a three-week residential program held at Missouri State University. It is designed to give high school juniors and seniors the opportunity and tools to become knowledgeable, successful, and excited about research, business, and career opportunities is math, engineering, technology and science. |

The Missouri Fine Arts Academy was originated in 1996 in order to challenge, motivate and empower Missouri's most talented arts students. This year, the academy had 151 student participating from every region in the state, but these students have encountered a greater challenge than ever before. The state legislature cut funding by more than two-thirds. Next year, Missouri's budget does not account for any funding to this important program. Julie Bloodworth, director of the Missouri Fine Arts Academy, and two of the participants discuss the nature of the program. |
