Flu Immunization Coalition Annouces High-risk Flu Shot Clinics |

The 2008 high-risk campaign by the Springfield Flu Immunization Coalition will start next week. KSMU's Alvin Chen reports.
Jim Rogers is an internal medicine physician at St. John's, and is the chairman of the coalition. He explains who's considered a high-risk adult.
"High-risk individuals that we're defining in this campaign are those individuals who are 65 years or older, or adults with chronic health condition, and also women who'll be pregnant during the influenza season."
The coalition will first distribute flu vaccine vouchers to the participating high-risk clinics October 13-17. The actual flu vaccination will take place the following week.
Rogers says the voucher system will eliminate people standing in line and waiting outside flu clinics.
"People can come at different locations to pick up a voucher. The voucher allows them to pick up a time, place and location that most convenient for them to get a flu shot. That way, when people come, according to the voucher, they know they're going to have a flu shot waiting for them."
Vouchers will be available for pickup at the Southwest Missouri Office on Aging, Jordan Valley Community Health Center Clinic and Northview Senior Center.
