Natural gas bills will be higher this year for many across the state, including Springfield residents. Last night, City Council approved a gas rate increase for City Utilities. KSMU's Jamie Givens reports.

The first phase of the natural gas rate increase will not begin until April of 2009.

Joel Alexander is a spokesperson for City Utilities.

Alexander says City Utilities understands that times are tough right now for their customers financially.

City Utilities offers a variety of ways to help customers learn how to conserve energy in their homes.

Alexander encourages customers to call the Energy Management Conservation Office at 874-8200.

For KSMU News, I'm Jamie Givens
