Weight Limits Placed on Bridge in Taney County

The Missouri Department of Transportation has placed weight limits on the Long Creek Bridge over Table Rock Lake in Taney County. The bridge, on Missouri Route 86, recently underwent an inspection, according to MODOT, which found deteriorating conditions that required immediate weight limits. All vehicles will be limited to 25 tons. According to MODOT, the legal maximum weight limit for vehicles in Missouri is 40 tons. Tim Lehmann is totally blind.

But thanks to technology, he's able to work full time for southwest Missouri state university.

Lehmann coordinates the southwest Missouri office of the equipment technology consortium, known as e-t-c.

The consortium allows individuals with disabilities to check out assistive technology devices for six weeks at a time.

He says the state-funded program is entirely free to those who use it.

Sherry Finnell says it was in the heat of a custody battle that false complaints of abuse and neglect were filed against her.

She says she felt helpless, having to respond to every whim of case orkers in the division of family services and juvenile court system.

Just last Thursday, officials officially closed Finelle's case.

She now has full custody of her eight year old daughter.

But for her, the issue isn't closed.

Voytech Levandovski came from Poland several years ago as part of a igh school exchange program.

After graduating from Kickapoo high school in Springfield, he decided to stay in Southwest Missouri and study public relations at Drury University.

He's one of many international students who have found a place at the Springfield University.

SMS holds annual International Student Banquet.

The film, "We Were Soldiers," tells of the events in mid-November, 1965, in the Ia Drang Valley of the central highlands in South Vietnam. It's based on the book, "We Were Soldiers Once and Young," published in 1992 and written by Lt. Gen. Hal Moore and Joe Galloway.

It's now up to Missourians to go online and choose their favorite from among the five.

Missourians previously selected the five from a group of 12 finalists.

Holden says she's pleased the public has been involved in the selection process.

Carbon Monoxide: A Silent Killer

Last year in Missouri, 19 cases of carbon monoxide poisoning were reported to the Missouri department of health and senior services'five of those persons died. There have already been 20 cases in 2002.

Earthquakes Around the Globe

Except for the strength of some of them, the latest earthquakes are not unusual, and the tremors are not related, according to SMS associate geology professor Stan Fagerlin.

The recent quakes include two in Alaska last Sunday, Nov. 3 ... a magnitude 4.0 in the morning, and a big one measuring 7.9 in the afternoon. That quake was felt as far away as Louisiana.
